As part of our Pre-primary students exploration of As part of our Pre-primary students exploration of circles inspired by Yayoi Kusama, we introduced light as a new material for inquiry.

Using flashlights, CDs, and a strainer, the children investigated how light can create circles.

They discovered reflections, shifting colours, and even realized they could create their own circles by pointing the flashlight at different surfaces around the classroom. What began as searching for circles transformed into actively making them.

Through light, movement, and curiosity, the children explored how art can go beyond paper and paint and discovered new ways of being artists.

During our gathering, Ms. Joanne invited our toddl During our gathering, Ms. Joanne invited our toddlers to join in a rain experiment.

We used shaving cream to represent clouds and blue food coloring to represent rain.
We revisited our topic of precipitation by explaining to the children that when clouds become heavy with water, the water falls to the earth as rain.
Through this visual demonstration, we watched as the food coloring travelled through the “clouds” and slowly trickled to the bottom.

Our toddlers took turns helping us make rain by squeezing the droppers with their fingers. This activity allowed the children to visually see water falling as we introduced the scientific concept. Weather not only affects the earth, but also the climate and landscape around us.

Since we are expecting lots of rain this month, it is important for our children to understand what happens in the sky, what we need to wear to protect ourselves from getting sick, and how rain, sun, and wind affect our environment.
It was a beautiful day for our Pre-Primary friends It was a beautiful day for our Pre-Primary friends to go on a nature walk!

Along the way, they explored their surroundings, observed plants and birds, and practiced important traffic safety skills.

The children were so excited to see the beauty of nature up close and even collected some natural materials to bring back to the classroom for future art projects. Stay tuned to see what they create!

Color can be a powerful language for expressing fe Color can be a powerful language for expressing feelings.

During gathering, we introduced the children to Pablo Picasso and how he used color to show emotion in his artwork. As they observed one of his blue-toned paintings, the children noticed the cool colors, the empty plate, and the downcast eyes. They shared that blue can feel sad, and made thoughtful connections between hunger, anger, and emotions.

To conclude, each child chose a color and described how it made them feel. Many selected bright, warm colors to represent happiness, while others chose blue, purple, or green to express calm or comfort.

Through art appreciation and open conversation, our friends explored emotional awareness and discovered how colors can help us communicate our feelings.
