Nido means nest or home in many languages. At Nido de Montessori, we create spaces and nurture relationships where children feel at home in our Nest of Learning. Nido means belonging to a loving, engaged, diverse community of lifelong learners.

Nido de Montessori’s curriculum is grounded in the Montessori philosophy and thoughtfully enriched with Inquiry-based learning. This intentional blend nurtures each child’s natural curiosity while fostering independence, critical thinking, problem-solving, and a lifelong love of learning.

We are closely attuned to our students’ interests and questions and use their curiosities to guide and deepen our explorations. Our educators ask purposeful questions and design meaningful learning experiences that support our students’ holistic development. Through inquiry-based learning, children become active participants in their education—exploring, questioning, and discovering—with educators by their side observing, guiding, and extending their learning.

Aligned with Montessori principles, our classrooms are intentionally prepared with developmentally appropriate materials that promote independence and practical life skills. Children progress from simple to more complex concepts at their own pace, building confidence as they master foundational skills and advance in their learning. Montessori materials play a central role in our Language and Literacy and Numeracy programs, offering hands-on, concrete experiences that support deep understanding and transferable learning.

Together, the Montessori and Inquiry-based approaches empower children to grow into capable, confident, and joyful learners.

Starting school is a big transition – for both children and their families. Our Gradual Entry process is designed to ease this transition by taking into account each child’s unique temperament, experiences, and readiness. Typically lasting one week, the process is responsive and flexible. Teachers and families work closely together, adjusting the pace as needed based on how each day goes. We are here to support your family every step of the way! Please note: A family member must be available and flexible during the gradual entry period to help ensure a smooth start.

The students at Nido de Montessori are expected to arrive at school wearing at least one piece of Nido branded clothing each day. Our uniform policy is designed to foster a sense of community and inclusion. It also supports a positive and focused learning environment, and helps simplify morning routines for families. Additionally, uniforms enhance safety during community outings by making it easier to identify students.

Nido offers the following programs:

  • Toddler Program: For children aged 18 to 36 Months
  • Primary Program: For children aged 3 to 5 years. A half-day option is available for students enrolled in this program.

We also provide on-site After School Enrichment Programs for children aged 3 years and above who display readiness for an extended day program. These programs give children the opportunity to explore new interests and develop skills through hands-on, engaging experiences such as Art, STEM, Music and Movement, Sports, and Little Chefs. Specialists are brought in to lead a variety of activities, with program offerings rotating each term.

Nido de Montessori’s core program runs from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm, Monday to Friday. We also offer a half-day Primary Program from 8:30 am to 12:00 pm. We have a soft drop off time when families may drop off their child anytime between 8:30 am and 9:15 am. This soft drop-off allows children to ease into their days at their own pace. It encourages calm, unhurried goodbyes and strengthens parent-child connections, setting a positive, regulated tone that supports learning. An optional After-School Enrichment program for Primary students is available from 3:30pm to 5:00pm.

Nido de Montessori is closed for all statutory holidays. We follow the Richmond School District Calendar for Winter and Spring breaks, as well as any unexpected closures, such as those due to severe weather.

Our program ends at 3:30pm to support a healthy balance between school and home life, giving families the time to build strong, loving bonds. Research in attachment theory shows that children thrive emotionally when they consistently share quality time with their primary caregivers. These everyday moments help form secure attachments that are essential for a child’s confidence, empathy, and lifelong well-being. At Nido, we believe these early connections are just as important as any learning that takes place in the classroom.

Healthy eating plays a key role in supporting our children’s growth and development. Our in-house chef prepares fresh, wholesome meals and snacks from scratch each day, focusing on nourishing the body to support the children’s daily physical activity and learning experiences. Our menu is thoughtfully designed with a pediatric dietician to offer a variety of flavours, textures, and colours, helping children develop a broad palate from an early age.

We make intentional choices to support food sustainability, sourcing fresh, local, and seasonal ingredients whenever possible. Our meals reflect a commitment to creating positive food experiences that encourage healthy habits and foster a lifelong appreciation for nutritious eating. Enrollment in the Nutrition Program incurs an additional fee.

Current enrollment at Nido de Montessori does not guarantee continued enrollment. While many of our families do continue with us through the Primary years, continued enrollment is based on mutual fit, student readiness, and availability in our program. Our goal is to ensure that Nido de Montessori continues to be a positive and supportive environment for children and their families. In some cases, we may find that a different setting is better aligned with a family’s evolving needs and values. As such, we reserve the right to make enrollment decisions based on the best interests of both the child and the school community.
